About Me

yurtcity
Yurt City is a collaborative endeavour of Sheila Ross and Laura Ten Eyck, two Canadian, New York based artists. Yurt City was born out of many conversations about how to build a yurt. It was realized in the form of Yurt City, after Dam Stuhltrager gallery in Brooklyn, invited Ross to create an outdoor installation piece for their new sculpture garden in 2006. That exhibition grew organically into an ongoing collaborative project in which other guest artists have also had their work included into several full scale tent, and other ad hoc structures installations. Various projects have been installed at Socrates Sculpture Park, art sites gallery in Riverhead, NY, as part of Memphis Social, a city wide exhibition Memphis, TN and in the oud Charlois neighbourhood of Rotterdam as part of the 3rd iteration of a traveling exhibition, titled Kuf/Mold exhibition. Both Ross and Ten Eyck have shown their work extensively in Canada and the US. Ross has been a recipient of an Ontario Arts Council Grant. Ten Eyck has been awarded a Canada Council grant twice.
