Hydro Signals (Jersey Shore)

Hydro Signals (Jersey Shore)

Laura and Ted installed 4 of the 7 flags we intend to install a few weeks ago.  Ran into some technical difficulties during the dig down to install concrete footings.  About 18 inches down, we hit the original road from the 1930's, which required a change of plans.  Triangular footings were used instead.

Site for Hydro Signals (Jersey Shore) late April 2012

Site for Hydro Signals (Jersey Shore) next to the boardwalk near the intersection of Ocean and Morris Avenue in Long Branch, NJ

Laura and I have been invited more and more to collaborate under the ageis of Yurt City but as a two person partnership.  We feel that the projects we have undertaken in the past couple of years, such as Amoibe Yurt City, F T Q and our latest endeavour, Hydro Signals (Jersey Shore) as part of Shore Institute of the Contemporary Arts' (aka SICA) Sculptoure 2012.  We feel all the subsequent projects are in the same spirit as the original Yurt City projects.  The next several postings will have photos of this project, some of the other participating artist's work.  There will be an event in mid June at our site.  More information to come shortly.

Tarp, re-purposed tent remnants, nylon fabric, thread
Tarp is 9 feet long, Other dimensions are variable

A couple of shots of finished F T Q, installed at that Hatchery as part of the East of Fresno project. Laura and I were sorry not to have been able to participate in person. The event brought together a very diverse group of artists who produced some very fascinating work. Also, the landscape looks stunning.

Two photographs showing another installation view of F T Q

F T Q SKETCH

Laura and I were invited to submit a proposal to the Hatchery Art spaces, East of Fresno project. It was pitched as a contemporary art exhibition amid the ruins of two failed international communities, initially Synanon, a drug rehabilitation facility, and later re-purposed as a Muslim religious community. The curators felt that our Yurt City project or some offshoot would be a good fit for the site and sensibility of the place. The exhibition opens on September 24th. More postings to follow shortly. The first one is a preliminary working idea sketch for F T Q - Flag Tarp Quilt.

DOG Y C (DOG YURT CITY)

Laura and I were invited to participate in the second annual Peconic River Day at art sites in Riverhead Long Island. Glynis Berry, the Director wanted something fun and enticing installed on the hill beside the gallery. As we had used these dog shelters and dog tents before we decided to create a tongue in cheek settlement on this embankment. DOG Y C was the result!
